Loher motors Loher high-voltage motors have been specially tailored to address extreme applications such as winch drives on the decks of ships, transporting and pumping natural resources from the depths of the sea, drilling units for tunnels or mining, high and low temperature applications - and especially production plants and machines located in hazardous areas in the chemical, petrochemical and oil & gas industry. Loher motors are available for these applications in all of the usual types of protection. This also includes double protection designs for applications where the danger of explosion is especially high.

Vario series High-voltage motors for tailored drive solutions Overview General description Technical data overview Features Customer benefits Typical applications General description The Vario Non-Ex series has a welded steel enclosure to ensure the highest degree of variability and versatility. Flange rings at the ends of the enclosure increase the torsional stiffness and ensure a vibration-proof mechanical design. The steel version allows various bearing concepts, dimensions can be adapted and a wide range of instruments can be mounted. The surface cooling using flat ribs combined with a defined inner cooling circuit with shaft-mounted fan inside the motor ensure optimum motor utilization. The copper bar rotors used as standard allow starting and operating parameters to be optimized for each and every application.

J series High-voltage motors for tailored drive solutions Overview General description Technical data overview Features Customer benefits Typical applications General description J series from Loher have a modular cooling design featuring double-flow inner cooling for a high power density and a homogeneous temperature distribution.2 versions are available: Mounted air-water heat exchanger (JHWA–... type for roller bearings / JHXA-... for sleeve bearings): Optimum cooling is guaranteed specifically for these series due to the harmonized and coordinated heat exchanger. The motor power loss is dissipated through the cooling water and is therefore de-coupled from the ambient temperature. The heat exchangers are available in a wide variety of versions with single and double pipe types. The high quality heat exchanger materials used are adapted to the specific requirements. Mounted air-air heat exchanger (type JHRA–... for roller bearings / JHQA-... for sleeve bearings): The motors are equipped with air-air heat exchangers. The cooling pipes are manufactured out of galvanized steel; stainless steel versions are available for especially aggressive atmospheres.

Loher motors in Ex nA Regarding explosion protection, for Ex nA II motors, the risk of arcing and sparking or hot surfaces during normal operation is prevented with an appropriate motor design therefore guaranteeing the required degree of safety. Motors with type of protection "non sparking nA" are used in explosive atmospheres, whereby, this atmosphere may occur in a potentially hazardous quantity. These motors are assigned to equipment group II - Category 3G (this corresponds to Zone 2). Loher Ex nA II motors are certified and optimally adapted for use in hazardous Zone 2 according to EN 50014 and EN 50021 or EN 60079-0 and EN 60079-15. They are stamped with II 3 G Ex nA II according to EC Directive (94/9/EC). The EC Declaration of Conformity documents that these regulations have been complied with.What is worth noting: According to EN 60079-15:2005, a risk assessment must be made for all motors with rated voltages above 1 kV. Loher has successfully completed the type test for the stator and rotor according to EN 60079-15:2005. As a consequence, normally no additional measures are required up to 11 kV. With Loher motors, the complex purging process before the motor started can be eliminated. When required, Ex nA motors also fulfill regulations relating to dust explosion protection according to EN 50281-1-1 // EN 50281-1-2. They are then additionally designated and documented with an EC type test certificate if the motors are operated in an environment with conductive dust. For variable-speed drives (converter operation), a type test must be performed with the actual converter intended for the application.
Loher motors in Ex e The basic idea behind this type of protection against explosion is to avoid the generation of sparks and arcs or excessively high motor temperatures by applying a series of measures so that there is no possibility of ignition in the first place. In addition, a suitable monitoring device is always required that even under fault conditions (e.g. locked rotor) avoids any ignition. Motors with type of protection "increased safety e" are located in an explosive atmosphere, whereby, this atmosphere may occur in a potentially hazardous quantity. These motors are assigned to equipment group II - Category 2G (this corresponds to Zone 1). They guarantee a high degree of safety. Loher Ex e motors are certified and optimally adapted for use in hazardous zone 1 according to EN 50014 and EN 50019 or EN 60079-0 and EN 60079-7. They are stamped with II 2 G Ex e II according to the EC Directive (94/9/EC). An EC type test certificate guarantees that the regulations are always maintained. Loher motors in Ex d(e) Especially when it involves flameproof motors, Loher has a portfolio that is second to none when it comes to scope and the capability to address a global market. The motor enclosure has been designed so that an explosion inside the motor cannot propagate to the explosive environment around the motor. The motors are suitable for installation in Zone 1. In the standard version, the motor has type of protection "d" and the terminal box has type of protection "e". All of the flameproof explosion-protected motors are individually tested in the plant to ensure that they are pressure tight. Power range: Vario: 80 to 3150 kW Tube-cooled motor: 800 to 6500 kW
Loher motors in Ex p(x) The motors are certified according to the latest standard EN 60079 in the highest level px. An explosive atmosphere is prevented from entering the motor by an inert gas that is kept at a specific pressure inside the motor. The mounted control device controls the purging process. In this operation gas with several times the volume of the motor is passed through the motor before it is started. In subsequent normal operation, the control device monitors the slight overpressure in the motor and regulates any losses due to leakage and the flow of the inert gas. All of the functions are parameterized, tested and documented in the factory. The pressurized enclosure permits safe and reliable operation in Zone 1 for the widest range of cooling types - even in the upper power range.
